New Boot Goofin'

Agent J November 24, 2023

Reno 911 a comedy television series filmed like a mockumentary about a sheriff’s department in Reno, Nevada. The show first aired in 2003.

This particular scene with Lieutenant Jim Dangle and the excitement of him paying off and getting his new boots is well known and most memorable to me. We say New Boot Goofin’ in our house quite often. It was the silliest scene in a show filled to the brim with silliness. A

fter we did our cowboy photo shoot last Summer I knew I wanted to recreate this scene someday soon.

The One Who Served Friends-Giving

F*R*i*e*n*d*s

Friends was a 90's Comedy TV show, based in Manhattan, about 6 friends who go through just about every life experience imaginable together. It first aired on NBC on September 22, 1994. With 10 seasons and 236 episodes, Friends was the IT Show of the nineties to the early 2000s. Ending in 2004. Friends season finale ranked 5th as the most watched with 52.5 million American viewers.

This particular iconic scene we are mimicking is from episode 8 of season 5 titled The One with All the Thanksgivings. Which is a series of flashbacks.

We flashback to 1988; Ross and Chandler (this time dressed like members of Miami Vice) arrive for dinner to find Monica has slimmed down, and Chandler now finds her attractive. Monica tells Rachel that she wants to humiliate Chandler for calling her fat, so Rachel suggests tricking him into taking off his clothes. Based on Rachel's suggestion that she act like everything around her turns her on, Monica tries to seduce Chandler by rubbing various objects, including a knife, against herself. She accidentally drops the knife and severs his toe, due to the fact Chandler's shoes are very weak. He is rushed to the hospital to have it reattached but, in the commotion, Monica unknowingly mixes up the digit with a small piece of carrot.

In the present, Chandler becomes upset after learning that he had lost his toe because he called Monica fat, and angrily leaves. When Monica comes by his apartment seeking his forgiveness by putting a turkey on her head, puts a fez hat and large glasses on it, and dances for him, making him inadvertently tell her he loves her for the first time in their relationship.

Moanin' Lisa Blues

The Simpsons

The Simpsons, an American animated television show first aired on December 17, 1989. It is the longest-running American primetime sitcom with 756 episodes and 35 seasons and counting thus far.

Moanin’ Lisa Blues was a song Lisa sang in episode 6, season 1, titled Moaning Lisa which aired February 11, 1990. For some reason, that episode and song have stayed with me all these years (er um, 33 years). Maybe being the middle child it just resonated with me then. The Simpsons was a family show we never missed catching. It’s truly remarkable that it is still running and going strong.

Anyway here are the lyrics to Moanin’ Lisa Blues, a YouTube video of the song, and for more info on this specific episode, click here, or for more info on The Simpsons television series in general, click here.

Moanin’ Lisa Blues

I've got a bratty brother. Who bugs me every day.

And this morning, my own mother, Gave my last cupcake away.

My dad, he acts like he belongs, Like he belongs in the zoo.

I'm the saddest kid Saddest kid in grade number two.

I wish I had a pony, I wish I were 18,

I wish I had a dime For every kid who treats me mean.

They tease me cuz I'm different, Little different from the rest. Oh, yes.

Well, I'm down so low, If I cheered up, I'd still be depressed.

The saxophone's my best friend, I play all over town.

But when I practice in my room, I hear...

Homer: “LISA, KEEP IT DOWN!!!”

Although I'm only eight years old, I've really paid my dues. It's true.

That's why I got a case of, A case of the Moanin' Lisa Blues!

I wonder how I got here, I wonder what I'll be.

The saddest little twig On this crazy family tree.

I feel like I'm a loser With nothing left to lose.

That's why I've got a case of,

A case of the Moanin' Lisa Blues!

Oh, there's just no postponin'

A case of the Moanin' Lisa Blues!

Candy Wrappers

I Love Lucy

Job Switching (Season 2, Episode 1) aired on September 15, 1952.

“After Ricky and Fred get upset about the girls' spending, Lucy and Ethel go to work in a candy factory while the boys do the housework.

At the candy factory, Lucy and Ethel have been demoted to the wrapping department. As the candy enters the room by way of a conveyor belt, their job is to wrap each piece of paper and return it to the belt

View fullsize Heart AJ 1.jpg

At first, the candy comes through at an easy pace, but the belt speeds up and the pieces double in volume. To keep up, Lucy starts to put some of them next to her, and she gulps down others. Mercifully the belt stops, but the two hear the forewoman coming-they frantically gather up all the loose pieces, dropping them into their cook's caps. Scrutinizing their progress, she says, "Fine, you're doing splendid. Speed it up a little." she shouts.

The speed and quantity of chocolate on the conveyor have become preposterous as Lucy and Ethel each gather up all the pieces and stuff them down their blouses. Holding their aching stomachs as they walk through the front door at home, Lucy finds a note. "Please do not go into the kitchen until we explain. We'll be back in a few minutes." Lucy can't resist going in, and a primal scream comes from the kitchen as she runs back out, describing the mess on the floor, the walls, and the ceiling.

When Ricky and Fred return, they admit that they're lousy housewives and want to call the whole thing off. When the girls agree, Fred and Ricky show their appreciation by presenting each of the girls with... a five-pound box of chocolates.”

The Moon Landing

The historic event captivated the world—and helped people look to the future.

On July 20, 1969, millions of people gathered around their televisions to watch two U.S. astronauts do something no one had ever done before. Wearing bulky space suits and backpacks of oxygen to breathe, Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first human beings to walk on the moon.

After the two stepped onto the lunar surface, Armstrong proclaimed these famous words: “That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."

Today NASA is working on sending humans to another planet: Mars. Thanks to the Apollo 11 moon landing, NASA is hopeful about its chances. The act of putting three people on the moon—and then safely bringing them back home—proved that successful human exploration in space is possible.
