Year of the Rabbit

Agent J March 31, 2023

Wild Fortunes: Rabbits

Rabbits are a common symbol of good luck, positivity, fertility, and growth in many cultures.

Say: Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit!

An old English superstition states that if you say Rabbit three times in a row on the first day of the month you will have good luck that month.

It is vital that the words rabbit, rabbit, rabbit are the very first word you say after you wake up on the first day of each month. You must also say the words out loud. This is the most common belief.

Yet another version says you need to say “Hare” before you fall asleep on the last day of the month and the first words on the first day of the month needs to be “rabbit, rabbit, rabbit”. This will bring a month of good luck.

Rabbits have been a symbol of fertility and prosperity for ages. No other mammals multiply as fast as rabbits and hares.

In some parts of Northern Europe, it was customary to give a child a white rabbit as a gift. The gift of the white rabbit was to ensure the child had a prosperous life.

In the Chinese Zodiac, there is a twelve-year cycle. Each year is represented by an animal. And this year is the Year of the Rabbit. Learn more about the fourth animal in the Chinese Zodiac cycle, here. https://www.chinahighlights.com/travelguide/chinese-zodiac/rabbit.htm

"Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit!"

Agent J April 1, 2022

Hoppy 1st day of April!

Did you know that it’s a superstition (found in Britain and North America) to say “Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit” first thing in the morning on the first of each month? Me either, or at least I don’t remember knowing it.

Saying the phrase out loud upon waking before saying anything else is supposed to bring you good luck for the rest of the month. You can shake things up a bit too, by saying “white rabbits”. Both are thought to bring good luck as rabbits are considered lucky creatures. Really, no foolin’ here.

If you are just learning about this good fortune ritual and you have already uttered your first words today, have no fear, there’s still a chance to ward off any bad luck lying in wait. Before you go to bed, again on the first of each month, you can say “black rabbit” or “tibbar, tibbar”, which is “rabbit, rabbit” backward. Keep in mind that superstitions are only as powerful as you let them be.

Well, there you have, rabbit. A little carrot of info, my gift to you. You’re welcome!

Come back and visit us again because this month’s photo series is aptly titled The HareShow. See what we did there? And we have some eggstra fun shoots in store for you. So stay tuned.
